SANDY ROW'S YOUNG PEOPLE PICK UP ANOTHER AWARD
BELFAST CITY COUNCIL'S
COMMUNITY SAFETY AWARDS 2012

On 15th March BSCR and Charter Youth Club went along to the Belfast City Council's Community Safety Awards, many of the young people involved with BSCR and CYC were nominated by staff for all their hard work over the last year. We are very pleased to announce that they won 2 awards! The first award was for BSCR's young people and all their hard work whilst involved in the Re-imaging Project in Sandy Row, many paramillitary murals are being replaced and these young people worked hard on the new Linfield mural on Blythe Street. The second award was given to Darrel Kelly, Jasmin Gibson and Demi Gorman, all of these young people work or are in full-time education some are even doing both, but they still give up their precious spare time to volunteer at the Charter Youth Club in the evenings and help out with looking after the children. BSCR and Charter Youth Club are very proud of these young people and the positive attitudes they have towards their community!

REACH students sell out at the Trade Fair read here for more detail

The REACH students and Stranmillis College have been working closely together on The Young Enterprise Project, this is a new exciting project at BSCR that will hopefully teach the young people of Sandy Row the basics about setting up and running a small business. All the students have a role to play in their "business" that will hopefully make a small profit. For the last few weeks these young people have been making christmas decorations and cards to be sold and on the 2nd of December a group of REACH and Stranmillis students travelled to a Young Enterprise Trade Fair to sell their products. It was a very successful day with all products be sold and a tidy profit being made, judges were there that day to judge the products and selling techniques of the students, the REACH Project received an award for Best Newcomers 2011 which was presented by the Lord Mayor! All staff at BSCR were very proud of all involved and hopefully this will be a good sign of more success in the future
